Day four in a series of videos of my creation of an Oil Painting of the Glimmer Glass Bridge. We drive over this bridge all summer long when we go to Manasquan beach for our family beach portraits. There are not many ways to get to Manasquan beach and this bridge because of its age and size always seems to be in some sort of constant repair. Because of this many people have a love hate relationship with this bridge lol. But love it or hate it, it is a very unique looking bridge in a very pretty setting.
The Glimmer Glass Bridge was built in 1898. The bridge spans the Glimmer Glass, a navigable tidal inlet of the Manasquan River. It is a cable lift bascule bridge, using a rolling counterweight design and is technologically and historically significant as the only example of its type in New Jersey. It may also be the only example in the eastern half of the United States.
