Judicial Oil Portraits
The Warren County courthouse commissioned me to create Oil Portraits of three of their retiring judges. Once completed each painting will be installed in a separate location in the courthouse to honor the work and dedication of these three judges. It is an honor to be the artist chosen to create these portraits for them and I am thrilled to have started this project for them.
Judicial Portraits
The first step was to travel to the courthouse where I was able to meet with two of the three judges. At our meeting I was shown the possible location for each judicial portrait. The Warren County courthouse is well over a hundred years old and during our tour of the building I was able to view the paintings of past judges currently displayed. Each painting was different and unique, based on these painting as a reference I was able to chat with each judge to talk about colors and style for their portrait.
We scheduled a judicial portrait session at the courthouse for a week later. At this session I created many portraits of each judge in several poses to use as a reference for their paintings. I picked my favorite judicial portrait of each judge and created a rough of the images along with a sample of many different backgrounds. The images came out great and the time we spent creating the portraits and getting to know these judges was a joy.
Behind the scenes at the courthouse
Here are a few behind the scenes images from my portrait session at the courthouse. As you can see, I used a very simple neutral blue background for their session. I will be replacing and incorporating a unique background for each judge.
I will post updates to my judicial portraits artist project as it evolves. Right now, we are going through the portraits to determine their favorite one from their courthouse session. I look forward to creating beautiful portrait paintings of each judge and watching it installed in the courthouse once completed. 2021 is turning out to be a unique year when it comes to the paintings and portraits I have been commissioned to create.
